YogaJaya Workshops

BOOM FESTIVAL
Boom Festival is held in Portugal every two years, on the shores of a lake. It started in 1997 with a handful of enthusiasts and grew into a unique gathering of people from all over the world.
Boom is an independent culture and artistic expression event. It crosses different art forms like music, paint, graffiti, multimedia, installations, land art, theatre, cinema, or videoart. Besides a huge line up based on arts, Boom has a cultural hub inside it, with conferences, workshops, fine arts gallery and presentations. Altogether there are about 400 artists in every edition of the Boom Festival. Therefs a full multidisciplinary atmosphere within the venue. But thatfs not all.
Boom is also an intercultural event. Boom is represented worldwide in 45 countries with a network of 101 Boom Ambassadors. People come from all over the world to experience a unique gathering, in 2006 there was 20,000 people from 80 different countries (data taken from the ticket sales registration). An intergenerational crowd maximizes this unique blend of people.
A main trait of Boom is independence. There are no-corporate logos in the venue | they are forbidden by the organization. There is no product placement and no marketing within the festival. The Boom Team strongly defend a new culture of entertainment, where people | not brand satisfaction | are in the first place. In this way the revenues come from the ticket sales.

The new culture of entertainment that Boom advocates is also manifested in worldwide
pioneer projects on ecological awareness. There is recycling; plastics are not allowed; therefs a Eco-Team working all day long; most of the materials are reused from other events; the toilets are compostable; and the water used in Boom are cleaned by cutting-edge biotechnologies based on aquatic plants. Entertainment is not just about having fun, is about giving solutions to the people.
Boom is a unique intercultural, transgenerational and multidisciplinary gathering where art is emphasized in all its magnificence.

YogaJaya will present the following programs at Boom this summer
August 11 - 18th, 2008
Morning Yoga:
Patrick Oancia, the founder and director of YogaJaya, will lead yoga sessions every morning at Boom Festival, covering asana (postures), pranayama (breathing) and meditation. Inspired by the teachings of raja yoga, the sessions will be freestyle, open to everyone from complete beginners to advanced yoga practitioners. Patrickfs emphasis is on yoga sadhana (spiritual exertion) toward developing our inherent ability to raise our autonomous consciousness to promote a life free of regimentation in todayfs hyper-connected world.
Afternoon workshops:
Autonomy in a World of Hyper-Connectivity
In these afternoon workshops, Patrick will lecture about the importance of independent thought and good intentions in todayfs dynamic world. His inspirations range across music, art, creativity, communications and Yoga, and how each can contribute to harmonious personal autonomy amid connectivity, mass co-existence, and a media-driven information world. Patrick sees the autonomous individual as needing to first embrace a personal inner world before being able to constructively integrate experiences in world outside. His philosophy is a fusion of an integrated understanding of contemporary life, a thirst for freedom from fear, and for freedom from social regimentation. An individualfs maximum potential lies in an ability, to re-discover the intelligence that we call intuition and use it as a compass to navigate freely through everyday life.
Physical yoga postures, breathing techniques and concentration exercises are tools we can use to achieve a deeper understanding of life and our own potential contributions to the world around us. Patrick will go into the details, benefits, and demonstrations of these modalities.
