Lisa Booth received her first yoga lesson from her mother at age 15, when she learned Surya Namaskar and received a copy of Swami Vishu-devanandafs Complete Illustrated Guide of Yoga. Stimulated by that book, she began the lifelong journey of trying to answer the questions, gWhy am I here?h and gWhat is my lifefs purpose?h

After working 10 years in the IT industry as a marketing-communications specialist, Lisa was disillusioned with mass consumption, global brands and the corporate manifesto. In addition to being burned out, she still felt that she was not living her lifefs purpose. To help deal with the stress (and the confusion of what to do with her life), she took the suggestion of a family friend and started taking classes at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Paris, where she was then living. Not surprisingly her practise stimulated profound changes in body, mind, spirit and life. The most important was an increased sense of self-acceptance and self-love. Empowered by the thought of sharing the experiential knowledge of yoga with others, in 2002 she quit her corporate job and earned Level I certification at the Sivananda ashram in Val Morin, Canada. Since then she has led Sivananda yoga classes and chanting workshops in France, Canada and Japan.

Inspired by a clip of laughter in the movie Ayurveda and sensing a need for more joy in her own life, Lisa became a certified Laughter Yoga Teacher from Dr. Madan Katariafs School of Laughter Yoga in 2004. After moving to Tokyo in November 2005, Lisa saw the need and took the opportunity to start Japanfs first Laughter Club in Tokyo near Yoyogi Park. Her experience with Tokyo laughers has only reinforced her belief in the global need for more activities that bring people together to celebrate our shared human values of peace and joy.

In April 2006, Lisa began the process of earning a Professional Yoga Therapy 500-hr certification with Integrative Yoga Therapy in California. Helping individuals personalise their yoga practise to further them along their own healing journey is what currently motivates her teaching style.

Lisa has been called a Global Citizen and itfs no wonder; she has traveled from her native land of Canada to over 30 countries. She currently lives in Tokyo with her husband and can be found teaching classes and workshops at YogaJaya and Sun & Moon Yoga.

Program description

According different Yoga traditions, those of us who are not living up to our full potential sometimes suffer from depression. The symptoms classified as depression (insomnia, exhaustion, anxiety, lethargy, eating/drinking in excess, doubt, feeling guilty, lacking confidence & purposecto name a few) affect about 121 million people worldwide and are the leading cause of disability among people from the ages of 15 to 44.

Yoga places great value on development of the physical, mental, behavioural, emotional and spiritual with the goal of living life fully. Therefore, each 2-hour class will be designed in a multi-dimensional style with equal emphasis placed on the physical, energetic, mental, behavioural, and spiritual dimensions of being. The progression will use the 5 koshas (sheaths or bodies) as a way to better understand ourselves and the benefits of yoga. Each class will include some combination of: asanas (postures), pranayama, (breathing), bhavana (imagery), mudras (gestures), mantras (sound affirmations), yoga nidra (relaxation) and dhyana (meditation). This integrative approach to yoga is intended to create an environment that encourages self healing.

February 25: Annamaya Kosha - Physical body
March 4: Pranamaya Kosha - Energetic body
March 11: Manamaya Kosha | Mental/emotional body
March 18: Vijnanamaya Kosha - Wisdom body
March 25: Anandamaya Kosha - Bliss body
April 1: Integration of 5 koshas | Living Fully
