Jill Ainsworth is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was raised on gumbo, jazz and Mardi Gras parades. Introduced to yoga while living in Los Angeles , she first studied Kundalini yoga with Yogi Bhajan and Gurmukh. After returning home to New Orleans, Jill delved deeply in to the Sivananda Yoga System visiting and training in ashrams in New York, the Bahamas & South India. She completed her advanced Sivananda training in Canada in 2002.

In 2000, Jill first traveled to India and met her Guruji Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois. She began her Ashtanga practice as a beginner in Mysore. Devoted to the system as taught by Jois, Jill has returned several times to study in Mysore & was authorized to teach by Pattabhi Jois & Sharath Rangaswamy in Feb. 2006.

Teaching since 2001, Jill has apprenticed and studied with several senior Ashtanga teachers including extensively with Richard Freeman completing his Teacher Training in 2004 and his advanced teacher intensive in Nov. of this year. In New Orleans, Jill heads a project called YOGACARES which seeks to bring yoga to shelters, public schools and victims of Katrina.

A workshop exploring the subtle aspects of the Ashtanga Primary Series. Breaking down the postures and exploring key concepts. All with beginnerfs mind welcome.

Finding the Yoga Mala. A devotional look at the Ashtanga Primary Series as taught by Pattabhi Jois. dristi. A discussion about why to do this practice? Finding the vinyasa(flow) through looking closely at the basics of breath, bundah & dristi.

Spirals, Juice Boxes, brass rings, scales & caves. Finding helpful metaphors & images. Samasthitih. Finding alignment & balance thru your feet & in your life with the practice of Ashtanga Yoga. Smiling thru the "Grunts" of the practice. Looking closely at back bending & finishing Navasana thru to Finishing.
Really "taking rest" at the end.

WEEK 2

A day of Advanced Sivananda practice & metta meditation.

Explore the variations of the 12 postures in Sivananda yoga system coupled with a soothing metta meditation!

Sivananda Advanced Practice. With devotion & respect to Swami Sivananda & Vishnu Devananda. An exploration of the 5 elements of right living. Including advanced pranayama & asana as well as japa mala meditation & chanting.

Metta Meditationcthe Loving Kindness Practice

An introduction to the Metta(Loving Kindness) practice of the Theravadan Buddhist tradition. Making a comfortable seat for meditation thru basic yoga stretches & proper alignment. Finding compassion & love for self & others through the tools of this heart centered meditation practice.
