Biography

Shinobu Nakano

Born in Tokyo, Shinobu spent her kindergarten and elementary years in Yokohama, later returning to Tokyo. Shinobu joined a tennis club in junior high school, as all her friends were doing it and she wanted to wear the cute tennis uniform. Really interested in fashion, she spent all her money from her part-time work on buying clothes.

After graduating from high school, Shinobu entered a professional college to become a dental assistant. But that limited and very specific working environment triggered a desire to experience something different, and Shinobu found a new job at an electronics manufacturer. Her more than 2 years at the electronics maker triggered a desire to want to work in a field that truly interested her, leading her to join a womenfs accessory brand that she loved at the time. Fully enjoying the experience of working for her favorite brand, she worked day and night, spending most of her weekends in restaurants and clubs. But she eventually hit her limit in what she could do in that working environment. She quit after 6 years with the brand and was married.

Since then, Shinobu has worked as temporary staff in various industries including restaurants, publishing, trading, food companies, and in apparel, in each case getting very busy with overtime work. In the midst of all this, she became interested in yoga as a form of relief from her daily life and somehow found her way to YogaJaya. Beginning with lessons once a week at the studio, she gradually increased to a regular daily practice as she felt a growing desire to experience yet more.

Despite never really liking exercising nor sports, and despite never having any hobbies, Shinobu found her time gradually filling up with yoga as her interest grew. The concentration in class, the relationship between the teachers and students, the sense of challenge, and the refreshing satisfaction after a class, all had a great effect. At first it was a mystery to her how much satisfaction a single class could offer, but Shinobu learned through her yoga experience and her own existence became filled with true life.

This revelation led Shinobu to attend and complete the YogaJaya International Teacher Training. Shinobu is certified as a YogaJaya Accredited Teacher (YJAT) and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance. She appreciates her discovery of yoga as a vital doorway to her encounters with new teachers, new friends, and a full contentment in life.
