Patrick has been practicing yoga since the early 1990’s. He has immersed himself in the study of yoga traditions including Iyengar, sivananda, and ashtanga, while refining various more-subtle applications beyond physical practice. His studies of Indian Dharma, Taoist, Sufi and Buddhist philosophy inspired him to link those teachings to real-world behavior in contemporary lifestyles.
Patrick comes from a sports background of competitive cycling and snowboarding and has followed various disciplines to maintain physical stamina, clarity and health. He is also deeply interested in diet and nutrition, believing that naturally changing circumstances in life can help guide people toward doing the best for the body at any given time.
Patrick has dedicated nearly 2 decades to the practice and study of yoga. He has accumulated thousands of hours of teaching experience over the past 10 years and is also registered as an E-RYT500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) with the Yoga Alliance.
Although he maintains an appreciation for all the forms of yoga he has practiced over the years, Patrick’s own teachings are not drawn exclusively from any one tradition. He develops curriculum and writes essays based on a contemporary interpretation of yoga as a lifestyle-enhancing element, directs teacher-training programs, and hosts yoga workshops and retreats internationally.
Patrick advocates yoga to enhance his own creative lifestyle, as well as to complement his love for a life of interesting new challenges. He sees his advocacy of yoga as the pleasure of sharing profound knowledge.
Patrick is the director of YogaJaya in Tokyo. He chose the name YogaJaya (union vanquishes) in order to focus on the way that yoga has helped him to overcome and then move beyond limiting factors in his own life.
Patrick sees all yoga practice as only providing a foundation for a journey to self-realization. After that, he sees it as being up to each individual to interpret what works best on the very personal road to true self-discovery. Patrick sees yoga as an essential lifestyle element that encourages continual change and natural growth build upon on a dynamic and interactive experience of being alive.
A Japanese born in Paris, Satoko was raised to feel as a world citizen, brought up in six countries by a family that thrived on traveling and on integrating into local cultures. She has traveled to all continents except Antarctica and loves to make personal contact with new places and people, making frequent visits to art exhibitions, interacting with interesting and creative people, and discovering completely new perspectives.
Following an example set by her parents, who made their home a center for social contact and interaction, Satoko became a skilled communicator in childhood and was at ease performing in front of others from an early age. Her teenage years in Kenya in particular had a great influence on her decision to study International Policy in University, followed by a Masters Degree in Developmental Studies in England. She then moved into the communications profession, building a career in the advertising industry with six years of work as a strategic planner while simultaneously studying advanced marketing at a school of business management.
Satokofs natural interest in the arts spans contemporary art, sculpture, installations, and expressive arts. She spent a year at an interactive art school, coupling that interest with her love of activities that connect her to nature, such as swimming, cycling, farming, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and adventuring in wilderness. She sees nature as an inspiration to all creativity, simultaneously bringing us back to our basic instincts and binds all existence spiritually.
Her focused interest in spirituality has made a gradual and continuous ascent, starting from a few weeksf stay in a Zen temple in Kyoto, bridging out to a 40-hour Yoga training course in Tokyo, to Vipassana in Australia, to completing a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training program in Bali with Vibrant Living Yoga. Satokofs ever-deepening encounter with yoga has profoundly changed her life in ways most unexpected, yet all simply a reflection of her most deeply rooted desires and intentions.
Satoko is the Managing Director of ParaImpacto/YogaJaya, enjoys her life as a constant explorer, a challenger of limits, and an experimenter in new domains.

Simon was first introduced to yoga at age six learning breath retentions from his father, then the main bandhas from Basil Brown (an Olympic athlete). At age 17, a Tibetan Lama introduced Simon to the philosophy of yoga. In 1980, Simon started the physical practice of hatha yoga eventually learning with BKS Iyengar, K. Pattabhi Jois and TKV Desikachar. Simon commenced teaching in 1982.
Simon met his main teacher Natanaga Zhander (Shandor Remete) in 1985. Then in 1988, Simon met physiotherapist yoga teacher Bianca Machliss. Together Simon and Bianca have developed the unique Yoga Synergy system. For many years, Tom Beyer (graduate in sports science / physical education) was able to gather experience in preventive sports and competitive sports before he committed himself to Yoga opening HOME YOGA in downtown Berlin in November 2007. Since then, he has developed his back-and-joint-yoga which is tailored to the needs of a modern city slicker.
An intelligent yoga practice should provide an efficient balance to the daily stress, and it is exactly here where back-and-joint-yoga sets in. On the physical level, we activate the neglected musculature which supports, holds and carries us. This means that we try to find an anatomically sensible adjustment of the joints and of the musculature to enable the development of an all-embracing ease / easiness. On the spiritual / mental level, we allow our sensory organs a break by freeing ourselves from the permanent flow of thoughts and focussing on the actual moment of experience.
Essential tools include the yoga belts (especially designed by Tom Beyer) as well as the intensity of a guided Ujjayi breathing. Here, every student learns to change, step-by-step and well-directed, his weaknesses into personal strengths.
Several times a year, Tom Beyer offers an advanced training to qualified yoga teachers who have the chance to deepen their knowledge in the field of "back-and-joint-yoga". In addition, he offers a one-year training for yoga teachers in Vinyasa Flow Yoga and back-and-joint-yoga. Tom Beyer is recognized by the compulsory health insurance funds; he is entitled to conduct preventive courses and he is registered with the Yoga alliance as a certified Jivamukti yoga teacher (RYT 500).

The YogaJaya Teacher Training courses are unique in being rooted both in great traditions of knowledge as well as contemporary and forward-thinking visions of the future.
YogaJaya is not merely a place for people to get documents that certify that they can teach yoga. A mere certification process is distinct from our philosophy of accepting each other and ourselves regardless of what stage we have reached in our lives. Our view focuses instead on awareness and compassion, meaning that rating others' abilities could be seen as contradicting the open nature of the yoga teachings.
YogaJaya does not teach only a single type of yoga, instead, we have taken great care to establish our own system of accreditation based on observations of the way students in our teacher-training courses grasp general concepts and then work creatively to apply them. We have very idealistic criteria from which our students are expected to build and grow.
YogaJaya's teachers share a wealth of knowledge and experience based on years of shared commitment to yoga and related skills. Our accreditation reflects this focus on each student's depth and range of knowledge.
We award accreditation on assessments of participation, cooperation and a passion for yoga. Many people can teach yoga, but we aim for more through comprehensive collaboration with our accredited students. We seek to build not just a personal foundation for yoga-teaching, but to nurture instructors that share our enhanced desire to spread the vast experience of yoga within the context of this modern world.
Anyone sincerely interested in yoga is most welcome to enroll in the courses in order to expand practice and knowledge with or without the desire for certification.
Although the courses are primarily focusing on establishing a deeper understanding of yoga, the programs introduce cross-disciplinary frameworks. Learning is stimulated by interactive engagement. Effective advocacy of yoga as a lifestyle-enhancing wisdom philosophy calls for ethical self-reflection, intellectual and affective development, as well as close contact with communities of practice and traditions of thought. The course programs were designed to prioritize social, spiritual and ecological issues in the context of a multicultural and modern world.
YOGA & HEALTH
The modern health-care crisis means that preventive strategies including yoga will continue to grow as steps toward true lifestyle reform. Our courses help people navigate the transition to a meaningful focus on wellness linked to yoga, community building and the multifaceted aspects of collaborative interaction. We seek education that blends science with holistic self-care to produce mind/body/spirit wholeness.
BECOMING A TEACHER
YogaJaya teacher trainings are known for building the foundation for becoming a highly skilled practitioner and instructor of yoga. But they also go further beyondc.
Our programs create a context for people to prepare themselves within a community of open-minded collaborating individuals, each exploring their own mission in life and developing the skills needed to make it a reality through transformation and manifestation.
In a world of increasing complexity and ambiguity, with ever-multiplying challenges and opportunities, there is a critical need for skilled instructors that are knowledgeable beyond mere physical practice.
These courses are designed to stimulate and revolutionize an individual's perceptions of yoga practice and how it connects to every aspect of growth. The facilitators chosen for these courses reflect decades of accumulated experience as yoga practitioners, athletes, academics, teachers, therapists and artists.
COURSE DYNAMICS
The courses consist of intensive yoga practice combined with lectures and theory on essential topics. Interactive group work is integral to the course dynamic. Students work together with teachers to explore the curriculum, clarify its applications, and to cultivate clear communications and connectivity from start to finish.
YogaJaya Intensive 300-Hour / 700-Hour Accreditation (YJA300 / YJA700) YogaJaya Accredited Teacher (YJA) as an extension of Yoga Alliance Registration (RYT):
Yoga Alliance 200-hour and 500-hour registration (RYT200, RYT500) requires training at a Yoga Alliance-approved studio. Yoga Alliance requires 180 contact hours for its RYT200 status and 280 contact hours for RYT500.
YogaJaya goes a step further. We see the body of yoga knowledge to be so vast that we also offer additional, more-intensive hours of study. Building on the base of the Yoga Alliance requirements, we extend the contact hours to a total of 300 hours (120 more than RYT200 for our YJA300 accreditation) and 400 hours (120 more than RYT500 for our YJA700 accreditation).
Our two extended courses include several hundred hours of comprehensive yoga practice combined with teaching methodology and physical analysis under the direct guidance of our experienced teacher trainers. Our total of 700 training hours is joining a new standard for such courses worldwide.
We use our additional contact hours to focus on a comprehensive understanding of the tran
sformational power of yoga as a vehicle to achieving one’s own potential while teaching and sharing with others.
Students who successfully complete our YJA300 and YJA700 courses will receive both YogaJaya accreditation and Yoga Alliance registration.
APPRENTICESHIP TO KNOWLEDGE
YogaJaya apprenticeship programs are offered as the ideal extension of our teacher-trainings. Apprentices receive extended support and guidance over several years, involving research, extended study and curriculum development. Each apprentice stands to learn the ways of experienced teachers and then to apply that knowledge in building specialized programs and courses en route to becoming a teacher trainer. We encourage our students to continue studying in other fields as well, to more fully appreciate the many perspectives from which people can come together to unite creatively in the regular course of daily life.
CREDIBILITY
YogaJaya is recognized by leading yoga organizations worldwide, and continues to extend its open and diverse mission to present a profound yet practical outlook on yoga, sustainable development and alternative lifestyles.
Yoga Alliance approved: YogaJaya teacher training courses meet all the requirements of and are officially approved by the Yoga Alliance.

GRADUATE TESTIMONIALS
gIt was amazingly wonderful. The schedule was tough, but once I settled in, I experienced a transformation in terms of confidence. This training excelled in transferring the philosophies and experiences of variety of teachers. It was not limited to just remembering words, but it really focused on deep meaning. The curriculum was also unique, going beyond yoga, yet connecting it all to yoga. Also, not only was there a connection between the teacher and student, but also amongst the students themselves, via group work. It was the best of all the trainings I have ever attended.h
@@@@- Satoe Suzuki
gInstead of presenting the teachings in a linier manner to 'produce' an instructor, this training approaches things from a multi-dimensional perspective, teaching the students to think for themselves first and to then reach the depths of learning by the end of the process. I was impressed by how the facilitators all had unique, subjective points of view, while at the same time respecting yoga in an objective manner. All the modules are presented in depth and offered me not only the opportunity to rethink my perceptions towards yoga, but also my entire way of life.h
@@@@- Yuko Takeuchi
gThe sequencing information was key to unlocking some of the challenges I was facing. I suddenly felt like I owned my own practice and that feeling was powerful and transformative. It was exactly the missing piece that I was hoping to find within this training. I came out feeling lighter and more inspired by the concept of yoga being a 'way' rather than a destination. For the first time, I wasn't just giving yoga structure through words, but I felt connected to and a part of yoga in a deeper way than I can really describe.h
@@@@- Dana Melvin
"It was my first time at a long international training. However, there was a variety of group work that a Japanese-only organized training would likely never introduce. Additionally, I developed very strong connections to a wide range of teachers, and I was able to learn about harmony, individuality and about taking personal responsibility. The great combination of unique students from different backgrounds also created an opportunity to stimulate and absorb knowledge from each other, outside the trainings. And most importantly, there were specialized modules to learn about the environment we live in, thereby learning not only about being a yogi on a yoga mat, but experiencing a curriculum that gave us a wonderful opportunity to look at our own existence within reality and life itself."
@@@@- Keiko Hikami
gIt was incredible how the topics were not restricted only to yoga in a narrow sense, but offered profound content that changed the way we perceive the world. This was more than I ever expected. I also got the strong feeling that we were each individually mentored with an underlying passion behind all of it.h
@@@@- Masae Shimizu
gThis was a wonderful learning experience for me. Going deeper into understanding the meaning of the 'integrity of the pose', and the differences between how it looks on the outside and what is really going on inside. The general energy sessions at the sessions was very positive and supportive. I benefited a lot from the thorough and precise directions and guidance in the asana. I also had the opportunity to not only learn theory, but to advance my personal practice.h
@@@@- Daphna Kieselstein
gI was able to feel a strong passion and energy from each facilitator. It was not only a program aimed at producing an output, but also aimed at developing a real, personal connection. Other trainings that I have attended were all fun, but I had never encountered a training that pushed me to inquire so deeply into things and to express myself to the fullest.h
@@@@- Mai Nishida
gThrough the change in perception and ways of thinking that I gained from this training, my life has become more exciting and fun. Whatever it is that presents itself in front of me, be it excitement, challenge or difficulty, I now feel that I can learn from it and always make positive steps ahead.h
@@@@- Juri Imafuji
“It was great to learn about yoga on and off the mat. Through this course approach, one can gain a truly deep understanding of the essence of yoga, and one begins to think about how to live in this society, leading us to take action to transform ourselves through this process.”
@@@@- Michihiro Sotomura
gI want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this course so powerful, intense, enriching and inspiring. You have led a number of people into directions they never knew possible, you challenged people to reach their fullest potential and you have made the past four months of my life more meaningful than you could ever know! gRegardless of whether you are interested in yoga, regardless of whether you practice yoga or not, I think it is a necessary educational program for those people living in common society. It nurtures a spiritual strength and flexibility that still fits individual lifestyles. If the receiver is aware, it will be an important and necessary educational program for future society.h
