Hikari was born out of the emerging global electronic music scene of the early 90's and in particular the underground techno parties in Japan at that time. These early events were an interesting mix of open-minded travelers and creative Japanese - all full of hopes and dreams as the sense of a revolution unfolding took hold. The music was the key catalyst - it lit the fuse that ignited everyone's lives, transcending language and cultural differences as if they never existed. It touched a core human common denominator and in so doing offered a shared experience of unity, which opened the door to an emerging new culture and worldview for all involved.

This was not unique to Tokyo - it was part of a wider international movement. Synchronistic happenings were spontaneously taking place in hot spots around the world. All over horizons were extending and lives were changing forever. As these growing networks interconnected, a global cultural fractal began to form - not Eastern or Western, but a merging hybrid mutation of the two. Embracing new technologies, curious of Eastern philosophies and spirituality, it was eager to explore newfound possibilities, to connect, create, express, and most of all - to be free.

It was out of this developing cultural network that Hikari grew. It's purpose was to bring the unity and freedom experienced through music and dance into our every day lives to create a truly integrated lifestyle for all involved, and in so doing to support and inspire others to do the same. Hikari provided an interface through which we could explore the potentials of creative expression, partnerships and communication. It offered an opportunity for each of us to play our self-determined roles, working together in a creative freeform network of friends to achieve our common goals.

Hikari has experimented with various mediums to communicate this vision. The primary mode is clothing design, though to date music and food have also been directly worked with (one of Hikari's two directors is a freestyle/down tempo music producer/DJ who plays at various international events around the world).

Fused into Hikari's designs are inspirations drawn from music, dance, travel, free life style and the ultimate inspiration that connects us all - nature's beauty. Traditional cultures from around the world have always shown an awareness and respect for our interconnectedness with nature in their artwork. Hikari's designs often incorporate such elements from multiple cultures and times into a single garment. Presented in a contemporary way, the result reflects the underlying unity of our world and resonates with the energy of a free spirited, cosmopolitan, modern day gypsy who happily embraces all and enthusiastically celebrates life as they express their own unique personality in their chosen way. We hope in wearing these garments, a sense of liberation awakens in the wearer, inspiring them to express their true selves, to live their dreams and explore their potential.

In realizing our vision, over the years Hikari has collaborated with many like minded people from around the world: visionary artists, anarchic graffiti artists, graphic artists, photographers, performers, DJ's, musicians, designers, people who have started their own projects and businesses, and many more. While everyone has come from different countries and backgrounds, has chosen different modalities of expression and communication, they all have shared a common philosophy to life. All are independent and self-determined. Each has been courageous enough to take responsibility for consciously creating their own life and manifesting their dreams and visions, however challenging that may have seemed or actually be. This has become a way of life. It is the unseen connection - the unspoken understanding through which all possibilities have unfolded.

In truth, we are all creators, whether we realize this or not. Each of us is constantly creating our life and by extension the world we live in. Through conscious self-determination and an attitude and atmosphere of mutual respect, support and co-operation, we can reshape our lives and the world we live in - creating a free and harmonious existence for all. This is a choice each of us must make - to take back our power and consciously create our world. This is how the true revolution will be realized. Peace, harmony and freedom - our birthright and our choice.

ヒカリは９０年代初頭、世界的に花開いたエレクトロニック・ミュー ジック、特に当時の日本のテクノ・パーティー・シーンから誕生した。

当時のシーンには、世界中から集まったオープン・マインドな旅人や クリエイティブな日本人の若者たちが集っていた。そこには希望と夢が 充満し、革命がおこるかもしれないという感覚さえ宿っていた。

音楽はその感覚を推し進める促進剤だった。個々人の生き方をます ます熱くさせ、言葉や文化の違いをいともたやすく飛び越えて くれた。１人１人が共通してもっている人間のコアの部分に音 楽が共鳴し、共同体感覚が呼び覚まされ、新しい文化と世界観 の 扉が開かれたのである。

これは東京に限った事ではなく、より大きなグローバルなムーブメントとしておこった。世界中のいたる場所でシンクロニシティーが自然発生的に起き、それぞれの人が自身の可能性に開眼し、人生を根本から変えてしまった。 人のつながりがさらに結合され、グローバルな文化が フラタルに形成され始めたのである。

それは決して西洋文明とか東洋文明とかでは語れない、 ２つの文化が融合された新しいハイブリッドの突然変異の形だった。 つまり新しいテクノロジーを味方につけ、東洋思想と精神世界を尊び、 創造し、表現し、そして何より自由で解き放たれていることを追求し 続ける姿だったのである。 ヒカリは、この発展的なカルチャー・ネットワークの産物だ。

ヒカリの目的：それは音楽やダンスで表現される一体感や自由 でいる感覚を毎日の生活に取り入れて、真に調和されたライフ スタイルを獲得すること。そして人々をインスパイアーし、仲 間を増やしていくこと。

ヒカリは、クリエイティブな共同作業の可能性をみんなで試す 広場を作った。そこに集う人たちはそれぞれの役割を果た し、友情を基調とした変幻自在のコネクションを作り上げ、 同じ目標を達成するために一緒に成長していった。

ヒカリの実験は幾つかの複合的な媒体によって成り立ち、 服のデザインを中心に音楽、食　とより幅広い分野でその活動の幅を広げている。（ヒカリのデイレクターの一人はフリースタイル/ダウンビートのプロデューサーでありＤＪで国内外の数多くのイベントやパーティでプレイしている。）

服作りーそれは、ビジョンを伝えるために ヒカリが選んだ１番の手段。 １着１着に込められているのは、音楽、ダンス、旅、自由 なライフスタイル、そして何よりも自然の美しさから得たイン スピレーションである。

またヒカリの洋服は、自然と人間の共存をアートに取り入れた 世界の伝統文化にも強く影響を受けている。現代的な解釈で表 現され直した洋服は、「世界は一つ」という感覚を反映させた のと同時に、唯一無二な個性を思い思いに表現し、フリースピ リットを持ち合わせて人生を謳歌している現代のジプシーたち のエナジーとも共鳴している。

ヒカリの洋服を身にまとうことで、人々の中に自由の萌芽が芽 生え、自分らしさを表現するきっかけとなってくれればいい。 そして一人一人が夢を生き、可能性にチャレンジすることを望 んでいる。

ビジョンを実現化するため、ヒカリは長年、世界中の同じマ インドの人たちービジョンを創造するアーティスト、グラフィ ティやグラフィックのアーティスト、写真家、パフォーマー、DJ 、ミュージシャン、デザイナー、シェフ、それに自分自身でプロジェク トやビジネスを立ち上げた人たち等多数ーとコラボレーシ ョンを続けて来た。

それぞれは別の国やバックグランドの出身で表現手法も異なる が、同じ人生哲学を共有している。それは、それぞれが独立し た、自覚的な存在である。

そして、それぞれがどんなチャレンジをも乗り越え、自分自 身の生活を意識的に 作り上げ、夢やビジョンを宣言する勇気 を持ち合わせているのである。この哲学は生き方そのもので、 仲間をつなぐ目に見えないコネクションであり、全ての可能性 を内包した暗黙の了解でもある。

意識していようとなかろうと、私たちは皆、立派なクリエイ ターなのだ。１人１人が自分の人生を創り上げ、その延長とし て世界を創り上げている。意識的に生き方を決め、そして相互 に尊重し合ったり、支え合ったりする態度と雰囲気とによって 私たちは自分自身と世界を変容していくことができる。
